Dumbo for Mom's birthday (Acrylic on 5x5 inch Wooden Block)

This is a painting of dumbo's face that I did on a wooden block. Although I'm delighted it came out as beautiful as it did, I wanted it to be a little more abstract. I added the trunk on the side because it's bad luck to give an elephant image with it's trunk down. I started with a lighter pink/grey in the ears, but it just didn't look like Dumbo.

To build more abstract images:
1. Change the entire color palette, not just a piece (i.e. a subject that is all pink or blue)
2. Experiment with line colors. White ink instead of black may soften the image and make it look less cartoony.

And another shout out to Pinterest. Because of Pinterest, I am not just limited to the images that Google can find me. This image below is not only a colored image of Dumbo, but the line construction which is really helpful when you're learning to draw. Looking at original sketches of images can be really helpful.
