"Pink Topiary" (gouache on paper)

This is my first attempt at using gouache and I adored it. I don't know if it was standard issue gouache or because I was using the cheaper brand (Artists Loft), But it took ages to dry. As a result I was able to manipulate the paint on the page for what seems like a very long time. For instance, because it stayed what I was able to add the pink shadows on the green towards the very end. In fact, the green bushes were created by smudging the paint in a circle with my brush.
Lessons For this type of Gouache:
1. After a little while, it will begin to dry if you attempt to smudge it you'll end up ripping paper
2. Doing this on paper (Even multimedia paper) was great at first, but it started breaking down and folding towards the end. I will use something heartier in future
3. I think gouache is the closest I have come to midway between watercolor for ease-of-use and acrylic for brightness and move ability. In all, I am very excited about using this material more often.
